Has anyone tried to compile an annonymous-ish Pan owners database or something similar to see where all the Pans are in the world by means of using the hang and other Pans unique numbers etc?

I was just wondering as it would be a great way for you guys to see where and how far they travel and are primarily used for etc

Something simple like

Bob J owns number #000137 etc in Washington USA etc Use, I play in a band etc

Plus you could start to utilise such a database to help create a seperate insurance listing for this specialist instrument as I guess most of you have it either un-insured or on the house insurance policy?

And we all know that insurance companies dont like high value items that they dont understand IE try explaining damage sustained outside of the house done to a Hang and see if they would pay?

Its just a random thought seeing as theres a few Hang and other type pan forums, thats all

Oh well, happy days :-)

There were a few attempts with those databases in the past. But only few owners joined these databases. So they never were able to give an representative overlook.

It's quite clear why this cannot work: Only very few Hang owners are active in Internet forums or interested in networking.

This is the most recent attempt to create something like a handpan players database. But compared with the number of existing instruments this is only a tiny fraction of players who joined this project. For the Hang completely meaningless because Hanghang are a little minority among this little minority. The philosophy behind this project you can imagine if you read how PANArt is described there: "Makers of the Holy Grail - Builders of this Non-drum Landed someplace in Switzerland. Contact them by mind power." Seems like a nice bunch of PANArt haters and some people who don't know what a project they joined.

The first attempt to list Hang players world wide was the Hang players directory at hang-music.com. It was shut down some years ago. Then Gothang started his database at http://www.gothang.com but only 72 players joined his Hang Registry within five years. I think the main reason is that only a few players are really net people and interested in something like this.
