There is a new Gubal presentation video on PANArt's Youtube channel: The basics of Gubal playing explained by David Rohner.

You need a good sound equipment to hear the bass sound, when David is exciting the Gu. Otherwise you will be confused what he is talking about.

Does anyone know anything about Gubal Tuniversity?

I think it might be a school I would like to attend. I wonder, would I receive a Gubal upon graduation? I hope they accept foreign exchange students.

The Gubal Tuniversity (or Tuniversity of Gubal) is not a school looking for students of Gubal building.

As far as I know , the term tuniversity - a wordplay - was originally used to title a section of PANArt's first website including Information for pannists, research papers and and information about education of steelband members in steelpan tuning offered at that time. It reflects the connection of handcraft, science and empirical research typical for PANArt's work on metal sound instruments.

It seems that the tuniversity has opened again with two students of Gubal building but also targeting at Gubal players offering collaboration in researching the characteristics and properties of the new instrument. But as far as I know there aren't any plans to increase the number of tuners at PANArt.

Michael, I wonder if you can tell me if it's possible to play Gubal sitting on the floor? I ask because I find it difficult to play Hang sitting in a chair, so I presume I'd have the same issue with Gubal.

Hi,

i am not Michael, but I can tell you that I play my Gubal sometimes, sitting on the floor.
You have do be a little bit carefull, not to hit the bottom on the floor, while playing.
That makes a not pleasant noise, if you are sitting on a hard floor.

Greetings

Frank

In addition a quote by Felix showing that "tuniversity" is seen as a form of personal approach (for Gubal builders as well as Gubal players):

"Tuniversity meint einen Bewusstseinzustand: Freies Lernen."
Translation: "Tuniversity means a state of consciousness: Free learning"
